"Fondation Latsis Internationale" award

The "Fondation Latsis Internationale", a charitable organisation, was established in 1975 by the Greek family Latsis in Geneva. The Foundation currently awards four University Prizes, worth 25'000 Swiss francs each, as well as a National and a European Latsis Prize of 100'000 Swiss francs each.

 

The "Fondation Latsis Internationale" Prize is awarded by the Research Commission of the EPFL on behalf of the Latsis Foundation.

 

The purpose of the "Fondation Latsis Internationale" award is to distinguish a scientific work of particular excellence from all EPFL research areas. The Prize is primarly meant to reward postgraduate scientific contributions made independently by junior scientists from the EPFL. In rare occasions it may also honour outstanding doctoral thesis of high scientific impact.

 

The age limit for candidates is 40 years.

 

Conditions

Application files should contain the following documents:

  • a supporting letter, written by the professor or principal investigator of the unit in which the candidate is enrolled ; this letter has to include a detailed justification for the nomination
  • the addresses of three international referees
  • a scientific report
  • a curriculum vitae (date of birth, private address, photo ...)
  • a list of scientific publications
  • the three most important publications of the candidate

 

The original paper version of the application file should be send to the Research Commission of the EPFL, together with an electronic version of the files in .pdf or .zip, burned on a CD-ROM.

 

Deadlines

Candidates can be nominated by EPFL professors or they can apply directly to the "Vice-présidence pour les affaires académiques": EPFL-VPAA, Prix de recherche, PA - Ecublens, Station 5, 1015 Lausanne, no later than March 1 of the year in which the prize is awarded.

Please note that a candidate can only be proposed for a single award.

The nominations will be evaluated by the Research Commission of the EPFL, which is entitled to seek independent expert opinion concerning the candidates, and will present its proposition to the President of the EPFL.
